Background:
Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is characterised by progressive joint space narrowing (JSN). Intra-articular glucocorticoid injections (IAGI) have the potential to accelerate structural damage. [1] Intra-articular hyaluronic acid (IAHA) has demonstrated chondroprotective effects [2], with very high molecular weight (VHMW) formulations providing longer-lasting benefits. [3] Sequential administration of IAHA following IAGI may delay disease progression.
Conclusion:
Sequential administration of VHMW-IAHA following IAGI is associated with significantly reduced joint space narrowing in KOA, as seen by long-term real-world follow-up. VHMW-IAHA may represent an effective adjunct strategy to mitigate structural progression in KOA. In osteoporosis, bones become weak & break (Fracture)easily.
